1. Israel VS Palestine
On Saturday, October 7th, militants from Gaza (Hamas) launched thousands of rockets at Israeli towns in the morning. They breached the heavily fortified Israeli border and sent militants deep into Israeli territory, resulting in numerous casualties, including civilians and soldiers, and the taking of hostages.
Israel responded to the attack by declaring war and initiating "Operation Swords of Iron," targeting suspected Hamas and Islamic Jihad sites in Gaza. This has resulted in a significant loss of life in Gaza, including dozens of children, as reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The latest death toll stands at 2,268 Palestinians and at least 1,300 people killed in Israel since October 7, [according to aljazeera reports.]
The history of the Israel-Palestine conflict, one of the world’s longest-running conflicts dates back to more than 100 years ago. On November 2, 1917, the Balfour declaration was issued. It committed the British government to “create a Jewish national home in Palestine, a region with a Jewish minority and an Arab majority. Fast forward to January 1949, following the establishment of the nation of Israel and the first Arab-Israeli war, the Jewish had gained control over 78% of the territory, while the remaining 22% became the occupied West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip.
Because there was never any peace agreement, there have been more wars and fighting in the decades that followed running up until this day.
