Mohbad was undeniably a musical storyteller, using his art to convey his thoughts and emotions.
Hi, Bestie. Trust you’ve had a beautiful week?
The music industry was deeply saddened this week by the heartbreaking news of the passing of the uniquely talented Nigerian artist, Promise Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. While the circumstances surrounding his untimely departure remain shrouded in controversy, as a collective, we find solace in the profound impact Mohbad had on our lives. We cherish the tranquility and rhythm he infused into his music, and we hold onto the hope that he has found eternal peace.
This week’s newsletter touches on Mohbad’s Music, Rema’s Run and WeTalkSound news. Dive in.

1. 5 Mohbad Songs That’ll Live Forever
Mohbad was undeniably a musical storyteller, using his art to convey his thoughts and emotions. In this article, we highlighted 5 of His songs that will remain evergreen.
Starting with the infectious rhythm of “KPK (Ko Por Ke),” this high-energy anthem provided a much-needed escape from the confines of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Moving on to “Feel Good,” a masterful fusion of Afrobeats and Amapiano.
In his sophomore project, “Blessed,” Mohbad touched on resilience and faith in “Beast and Peace,” emphasizing that he emerges victorious from life’s challenges, guided by his unwavering belief in God. Collaborating with his friend, Bella Shmurda, they delivered “Adura,” translating to “Prayer” in Yoruba.
Concluding our list is “Ask About Me,” a testament to Moh’s unwavering determination to succeed against all odds.
Indeed, the legacy of Mohbad lives on.
2. Another Banger
It was a momentous week for the Rema. The artiste’s smash single featuring Selena Gomez became the first African song to hit a billion streams on Spotify. "Calm Down" also made history as the first African song to spend 1 year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
On Wednesday, Rema became the first recipient of the “Best Afrobeats Song” at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). That was also his first VMA win. During his acceptance speech, the artist paid homage to the trailblazers of Afrobeats vanguards, from the legendary Fela Kuti to 2baba, D’banj, Don Jazzy, D’Prince, Timaya and to contemporary stars such as Runtown, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy.

What a remarkable run Rema is having right now.
